EP Whakataetae Reo Māori for Schools 2024
EP is excited to announce that the Whakataetae Reo Māori for Schools is back again in 2024!
Held during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, this is a free access competition open to all schools and students in Aotearoa New Zealand.
What is this event?
Students and kura (schools) will compete against each other by earning points from completing selected activities drawn from our Te Ao Māori content.
This is EP's principle and annual Māori Language competition that celebrates Te Reo Māori and supports schools throughout Aotearoa me Te Waipounamu with the normalisation of our national language.
When is the event?
Coinciding with Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week), this event is open from 9 am, Monday 16 September until 4 pm Wednesday 18 September.
Who can take part?
Any NZ students with an active EP languages subscription can take part free of charge and will be automatically enrolled.
Schools are welcome to enrol additional students for no extra charge. Please click here for instructions, and ensure you note that the details are for this event.
We also encourage our community of educators to join in! If you'd like to take part alongside your students, let us know once you've registered, and we'll create an account for you to compete with.
How do we sign up?
All New Zealand schools and students are automatically enrolled.
How do students compete?
Students will log in to EP using their accounts, and earn points by answering questions within the Māori content area. Kaupapa include activities on Te Reo Māori (The Māori Language), Tikanga (Cultural Etiquette) and Aotearoa NZ Histories.
For full instructions, we recommend that teachers and students check out our guide on taking part in EP competitions.
Are there any prizes?
Yes! Students who earn enough points will be awarded certificates. These are available to download by teachers after the event takes place.
Competition rules
At EP, we take competition integrity very seriously. We recommend that all teachers and competing students check out our full competition rules. Any students found to be earning points unfairly will be disqualified from the event.
