Education Perfect IGCSE Science course support
What content does EP offer?
For Cambridge, we have comprehensive resources for the individual Science specifications:
- Cambridge IGCSE Biology (2023-25)
- Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry (2023-25)
- Cambridge IGCSE Physics (2023-25)
In addition to our existing resources, we are in the process of completing new lessons to support the IGCSE Triple Sciences course.
How can EP IGCSE Science content support your IGCSE Science programmes?
Science investigation lessons
- EP IGCSE Science content contains specific lessons focused on investigations designed to support students in their practical work.
- Teachers can assign the “pre-lab” work for students to complete prior to the lesson.
- They can revisit important parts of the investigation (such as safety) before beginning the practical task.
- Students can work in groups to complete the investigation, however, each individual will be required to submit their own EP lesson.
- Learn how to assign specific sections of a Smart Lesson.
Example investigation lessons
- Movement into and out of Cells: Diffusion: Diffusion Experiments
- Stoichiometry: The Mole and the Avogadro Constant: Lab Activity: Investigating Concentration Using Titrations
- Electricity and Magnetism: Electromagnetic Effects: Electromagnetic Induction: Investigating Electromagnetic Induction
Teaching complex topics
- Clear explanations: EP lessons provide clear explanations of complex topics that students can access and read at their own pace. If a teacher lacks subject knowledge in a particular area, EP can help fill these gaps. and is a resource for teachers to fall back on.
- Save teacher time: EP lessons can save teachers a great deal of time creating complex learning material - teachers can access the large library of lessons and assign relevant ones.
- Scaffolded engaging lessons: Content is designed to boost student engagement and support students learning with engaging explanations and scaffolded learning material. Students can refer back to the explanations at any time and redo the lessons as many times as necessary to reinforce their learning.
- Consolidation of resources: You can use EP to consolidate all your existing resources. You can easily edit lessons and add your own resources or resources from other sources.
Below are some examples of instructional lessons with clear explanations and scaffolded activities:
- Inheritance: Chromosomes, Genes and Proteins: Genes to Proteins
- Electrochemistry: 4.2 Hydrogen-Oxygen Fuel Cells: Hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells
- Electricity and Magnetism: Electrical Quantities: Electromotive Force and Potential Difference: Electromotive Force and Potential Difference in Circuits
Regular assessments
- Parallel exam papers: Teachers can assign the pre-built IGCSE parallel papers that are available in the Content Library. The EP Assessment tool gives students the opportunity to complete practice examinations in exam conditions. It will also grade students' work and provide teachers with a comprehensive analysis of data.
- Quick quizzes: Teachers can create a Quiz with multiple attempts to motivate students to improve on their mistakes.
- Personalised revision pathways: Teachers can assign personalised learning pathways based on the results of a Quiz or a Pre-Built Assessment, so students can focus on areas where they have knowledge gaps.
- Independent revision: Students can use EP IGCSE Science lessons for revision in preparation for exams. They have access to all lessons in the Content Library (including previous years) and can access these at their own pace. All they need to do is navigate to the subject and browse all content.
- Revision competition: Teachers can create a competition based on certain folders of content specific to the exam. This is an engaging way for students to revise and compete against others in the class.
Different abilities in the class
- Different lessons for different students: Teachers can assign different lessons to different groups of students depending on their ability. Within the EP package - teachers can assign work at higher or lower levels not just the level of the class.
- Personalised learning pathways: Teachers can assign a pre-test based on a topic and assign personalised learning pathways based on their results in the pre-test.
- Work at their own pace: Students can work through the lessons at their own pace.
- Text-to-speech: EP as text-to-speech functionality to support students who may need this.
- Lesson customisation: Teachers can personalise/customise the lessons to provide additional support to those who need it.
Time constraints
- Flipped classroom: Teachers can assign EP lessons for students to consolidate content at home, saving valuable class time for completing practical work, hands-on activities, group work and working 1-1 with students or in small groups. Teachers can view the completion report to look for areas that need to be revisited or extended in class.
- Teacher 1-1 and small groups: Teachers can spend time 1-1 and in small groups in class time while other members of the class work on EP lessons.
- Automarked answers and model answers: EP’s automarked questions, as well as model answers and supporting scaffolds, will also reduce marking time for teachers in class time and outside of class time.
- Student absence: If students are absent from class for extended periods they can access EP lessons to support them to catch up.
