When is this event taking place?
This first LAHC Language Festival will run over 3 days, from Tuesday 22nd February (9am Brazil time) - Thursday 24th February (5pm Brazil time).
Who can take part?
All Northern Hemisphere schools in the LAHC network are warmly invited to join, and the competition is suitable for all levels of language learners from Grade 2 and above.
What languages are included?
Languages included: English, EAL/ESOL, French, Spanish, German, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Italian & Indonesian.
Our content is targeted at students learning these as foreign languages, and our content caters for beginner learners right through to advanced.
How do I register, and how much does it cost to enter?
Registration and participation in this event is completely free for LAHC schools.
There are two steps that must be followed for students to be able to compete.
- Register for the competition. Click here to complete the registration process.
- Enrol students on the Education Perfect platform. This is a quick process, to be completed by the teacher.
How does the competition work?
- Students log into Education Perfect via the Education Perfect student App (mobile or tablet) or through the Education Perfect homepage on Google Chrome.
- Students can access all of our online languages activities for Grammar, Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing, as well as our extensive bank of vocabulary quizzes.
- Students will get a point for every question correctly answered, regardless of question difficulty or chosen language.
- Students can independently access and complete language learning during the event - but will also earn points for any teacher-assigned Languages tasks. Thus, you can choose whether to direct students to particular activities, or let them choose the content they wish to complete for the competition.
We encourage all participating teachers and students to read our competition rules before competing.
How much time will it require?
We know that teaching schedules are jam-packed, which is why we've designed this competition to be as flexible as possible. You do not need to allocate class time to take part, and there is no minimum amount of time required.
There is also no need for any prior teaching or specific preparation required for the event.
How could I run this event with my students?
You could:
- Allocate one or more of your lessons to the Festival and guide students towards specific content (ie revision materials from recent topics);
- Assign the Festival as a fun homework activity for your students;
- Run the Festival as an extra-curricular event, and offer time for students to participate during lunchtimes and/or after school.
Some teachers like to offer additional in-school rewards, such as House Points or Merits, to encourage friendly competition and boost student participation.
How can I support my students?
All EP languages tasks are designed to be completed independently, so no direct teacher input is required. However, there are two things teachers can definitely help with:
- We encourage all teachers to ensure students know how to log into the Education Perfect platform before the event begins.
- During the competition, you can cheer your students on via the competition scoreboard!
- Some teachers like to offer additional motivation in the form of house points, merits or other awards during the competition to boost engagement.
How do my students access the competition?
- Log in to Education Perfect, either via the App or Google Chrome browser.
- Click on the Competitions tab in the Student Zone, choose the Languages Championships and click on the green button that says 'Compete'!
- Students can then select any English or Languages content to start earning points.
Please note, the green 'Compete' button will only become visible when the competition starts on 22 February 2022.
How can I track my students' & school's progress?
Make sure you bookmark the scoreboard so that you can keep track of your students' successes, as well as keep an eye on your fellow competitors!
