Before You Begin
Your school must already be using Google Classroom.
Your school must have opted in to Google Classroom Sync with EP.
Your Google Workspace Admin must have configured EP Classroom Sync as a trusted app.
If any of the above hasn't happened, check with your school's IT team or admin before trying to import classes.
Importing new classes
Importing New Classes
You should only import classes that don't already exist in EP. If a class already exists, importing it again will create a duplicate that will need to be archived.
Navigate to the My classes space and click Google Classroom.
If it's your first time using Google Classroom Sync, you'll be asked to authorise EP to access your Google information.
Make sure every box is ticked — EP needs access to all of these details to correctly create accounts and classes. Missing permissions here is the most common cause of sync problems later.
Tick which class(es) you want to import, and set the related Year/Grade Level and Subject for each.
Click the Import classes button at the bottom of the page.
EP will take a moment to set everything up, and your classes will then be ready in EP.
Note:
You should only import classes that don’t already exist in EP. If they are already set up, you may end up with duplicates that need to be archived.
Resyncing existing classes
If you need to make changes to imported classes, these will need to happen in Google Classroom. Once actioned there, changes can be pushed into EP by using the Sync class button.
To do this, navigate to the class in question in the left-hand navigation, or from My classes. You will need to open the Settings tab of the class, and click Sync within the Integrations card.
EP will take a moment to update, and then the changes from Google Classroom will be reflected in EP.
If you need to change any student details (or move students between classes) and are using Google Classroom Sync, you’ll be unable to make these changes in EP.
Student Login
New student accounts with emails created by Google sync will receive an invitation email automatically. If a student was synced previously and has an existing account with Education Perfect but is just being added to new classes, they will not receive a welcome email
For existing students who do not receive a new welcome email, advise on logging with using your schools specific login method.
See our student login guide for more details.

FAQ
Managing Class Membership
How can we add or remove students from the class?
Class membership is managed in Google Classroom, not EP. Add or remove the student in Google Classroom, then use the Sync Class button to update EP.
📄 Follow Google's guide to adding/removing students for step-by-step instructions.
How can we add or remove teachers from the class?
Teacher assignment also happens in Google Classroom. Make the change there, then sync the class to push it into EP.
📄 Follow Google's guide to adding/removing teachers for step-by-step instructions.
What happens if a teacher in Google Classroom doesn't yet have an EP account?
An EP account will be created for them automatically during the initial sync.
Editing Student and Class Details
How can I change student or class details?
Some details can be edited directly in EP. Most Google-owned account and class details, however, need to be changed in Google Classroom first, then pushed into EP with a sync.
Editable in EP | Not editable (must be changed in Google Classroom) |
Student password Class name (when you sync next, your custom name will remain). | Student name Student email address Class(es) a student is enrolled in The teacher assigned to the class |
Once you've made a change in Google Classroom, click Sync Class to bring it into EP.
My class has multiple year levels or subjects. How do I add more?
Once a class is imported, its subject and year level can't be manually updated in EP. You have two options:
Create a new class in Google Classroom with the correct subjects and year levels before syncing. Then archive the old class.
Disable Google Classroom sync for that class — gives you manual control over subjects and year levels.
Sync Behaviour
Are classes synced automatically at any point?
No. A sync only happens when a teacher manually triggers it — either during the initial import, or by clicking Sync Class afterwards.
What happens if a class is imported but is then deleted in Google Classroom?
The class will still exist in EP. If you no longer want the class in EP, we recommend archiving it.
Can the sync be turned off for a class?
Yes — simply archive the class in EP. You can unarchive it later to manage it as a regular, manually-controlled EP class.
Duplicate Accounts and Classes
What if a student I want to sync already exists on EP?
EP looks for an existing account by matching email address, and adds that student to the class rather than creating a new one.
If a student's or teacher's details don't match exactly, a duplicate account could be created.
If a student or teacher already has an EP account at a different school, their account must be transferred to your school before the sync will work. You'll see an error message if this occurs.
If either scenario happens contact EP Support by clicking the ? button on the bottom right side in the EP App.
What if a class I want to sync already exists on EP?
Google Classroom Sync can't take over an existing class. Instead, it will create a duplicate, and the original will need to be archived — which also archives that class's Task and Assessment data.
We recommend only syncing classes that don't already exist in EP, or waiting for a new school year to start fresh.
Troubleshooting Sync Issues
Why are account details not syncing properly?
If names or emails are missing after a sync, EP likely wasn't fully authorised to access your Google information.
Remove the EP Classroom Sync app in your Google Account settings.
Sync again, making sure to tick all authorisation options this time.
If issues continue, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser before re-authorising.
Google requires admins to confirm third-party app access — what does that mean?
Google requires Google Classroom admins to explicitly review and confirm access settings for third-party apps, including EP. This is a one-off step your school's Google Workspace Admin (usually your IT team) completes during initial setup. If it hasn't been done, you will run into errors when trying to sync your classes.
