Fixing blocked YouTube videos in EP content

There are two types of videos that can be embedded in Smart Lessons - videos built by the Education Perfect team, which are hosted on our servers, and videos made by other creators, which are hosted on YouTube. Your students should be able to watch videos hosted on our servers without issue, but many schools block student access to YouTube by default.

Permitting our YouTube links

Content filtering software used by schools normally has an exceptions list, which allows schools to make exceptions for specific links which would otherwise be blocked. This list allows a specific list of URLs to be visited by students, while still enforcing the overall restriction on YouTube.

A full list of the YouTube links used on Education Perfect can be downloaded here. Your IT administration team should be able to grant students access to the listed URLs for you.

Adding items to your school's exceptions list does not impact the security of your content blocking system in any other way, nor does it give Education Perfect access to anything else in your school's network.

Because of the number of different content blocking programs on the market, we're unable to give specific advice on how to add links to a specific provider's exception list, however, your school's IT team should be able to organise this for you.

Google's recommended settings for Schools & Organisations

Google has put together a blog post that covers a few options for how Schools and Organisations can manage access to YouTube: Google's Blog Post

The post covers options for channel allowlisting, options for administrators, as well as a couple of other methods.
