EP’s AI in Education Study: Participation Guide for Schools
Welcome to EP’s groundbreaking research into the real impact of AI tools in education.
With new AI tools launching every day, it’s increasingly challenging for educators to determine which ones genuinely enhance learning — and which are simply hype. That’s why EP is leading the first major study focused on testing, validating, and measuring the true impact of AI in the classroom.
We’re delighted to have your school on board. This guide outlines the steps required for successful participation.
What’s Involved
Step 1: Nominate Your Classes and Topics
Your EP representative will be in touch to get started. We’ll need a few details from you:
- The subject you'll be teaching, ie. English, Science, or Languages (French, German, Italian or Spanish)
- Nominate at least two classes (Years 7–10) that will be covering the same content during the study period.
- Let us know which topics you'll be teaching, so we can create a tailored pre-test to suit your classes (more on that in Step 3!).
If one of your classes will be using the AI tools as part of the study, don’t worry — our team can provide training to help you make the most of it. You’re also welcome to explore our Getting Started Guide at your own pace.
Step 2: Complete the Pre-Study Survey
To help us better understand the impact of the study, we kindly ask that each participating teacher to complete a short perception survey before getting started.
It only takes a few minutes and gives us a snapshot of everyone’s starting point — so we can better measure growth and changes by the end of the study.
Once all surveys are complete, your school’s study period officially begins!
Be sure to complete a survey for each participating class.
Step 3: Assign the Pre-Test
We’ll provide an assessment (pre-test) tailored to the topics you’ve nominated. This same assessment will be used both before and after the study to help measure learning progress.
The format of the assessment will vary based on your nominated subject, however as an example it could be:
- 10 auto-marked, closed-response questions
- 2 written-response questions, marked by the teacher (we’ll provide clear marking criteria)
What You Need to Do
- Assign the appropriate assessment to your students as a pre-test. Ensure that you withhold the results from students to help keep the study fair. [Learn how here]
- Have your students complete the assessment with Montior mode.
- Mark the two written-response questions directly in EP using the provided criteria.
Let us know if you need any help — we’re here to support you!
Step 4: Assign EP Lessons
Continue assigning EP lessons as usual, with a few additional considerations for study integrity:
- Assign the same lesson content to all participating classes.
- Students should use EP at least once per week for a minimum of 4 weeks.
Assignment tips:
- Use the Course Planner > ‘Share’ feature to assign identical lessons across classes [Learn how here].
- Where available, prioritise lessons with AI-supported questions, marked with the AI symbol.

Step 5: Assign the Post-Test
Once you’ve wrapped up the topic, it’s time to reassign the same assessment as a post-test to measure how much your students have progressed.
What you need to do
- Reassign the original assessment as a post-test [Learn how here].
- Mark the two written-response questions using the same criteria as the pre-test.
- Advise your EP representative that your students have completed the unit and results are ready for analysis!
Step 6: Complete the Post-Study Survey
We’re almost there! To wrap up the study, we ask all participating teachers and students to complete a quick post-study survey.
This helps us understand everyone’s experience and capture any changes in perception or confidence since the start.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What if we don’t finish teaching the content in the nominated time period?
A. No problem at all — we understand things don’t always go to plan! Just let your EP representative know, and we’ll work with you to adjust the timing.
Q. What if my students don’t complete the work?
A. We know things can get busy! While it’s important that as many students as possible complete the work to ensure a strong data set, we’ll account for any non-completion when analysing the results.
Q. What if I need to teach slightly different content than my paired class?
A. Ideally, all paired classes should cover the same content to ensure a fair comparison. If you do need to make small adjustments, please touch base with your EP representative so we can help manage this within the study framework.
Q. Do the EP lessons need to be completed in class, or can they be done as homework?
A. Whatever works best for you and your students! Lessons can be completed in class or at home — it’s completely flexible.
Q. Is my students’ data safe?
A. Absolutely. At Education Perfect, we take data privacy and security seriously. We’re committed to providing a safe, secure, and trusted learning environment for both students and teachers.
[Read more about EP’s safety and privacy policies here.]
Q. I’m not starting a new topic right now — can we delay the study?
A. Yes, the study start and end dates are flexible. Just let us know what timing works for you and we’ll make it happen.
Q. How do I explain the AI to the class using it?
A. We’ve got you covered! Your EP representative will provide resources and a simple guide to help you introduce the AI tools to your students safely and confidently. In the meantime
Q. Will my control classes (the ones not using AI) get access to it later?
A. Yes! While control classes won’t use AI during the study period, we’ll say thank you by giving all participating classes access to EP’s AI tools for the entirety of Term 3.
Thank You
Thank you for being part of this important research. Your participation will help build evidence-based understanding of how AI can support learning outcomes.
We’re here to support you every step of the way. If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to your friendly EP representative. We’ll check in with you periodically and, once the study concludes, share key insights and performance.
