What this does
This feature lets you see when a student has copied and pasted an answer into an extended-response question in an Assessment. It works for extended-response questions in official EP content and teacher-made content.
How it fits with paste prevention
Assessments on EP already include paste prevention features, so copy-paste detection works as a backup. Here's how paste prevention behaves:
When Safe Exam Browser is off and Full Screen monitoring is on, students' clipboards are cleared when they select Start or Resume (after leaving full screen mode).
When Full Screen monitoring is off, students' clipboards are cleared when they start the Assessment, but they can paste text freely during it.
Clearing the clipboard can't stop every method of pasting, which is why copy-paste detection is there as a backup.
How it works
What you'll see as a teacher
Paste events are detected on extended response questions in assigned Assessments and surfaced to you. When you view an assigned Assessment, you can find them in these places:
The Responses tab: when you view student responses, you can see exactly what was pasted.
The Report tab: under Student results, when you view the report for a student, you can see paste events for each attempt.
What students see
When a student pastes text into an extended response question, they're warned that their teacher can see pasted text. The warning only appears when a paste happens. If the student dismisses it, it will appear again the next time they paste in a new EP session (for example, in a new tab or window of EP).
