See when students copy and paste answers in a Task

See where a student pasted text into an extended-response Task question, and let your students know you can see it.

What this does

This feature lets you see when a student has copied and pasted an answer into an extended-response question in a Task. It works for extended-response questions in official EP content and teacher-made content, whether or not AI marking is turned on for the question.

Where to see paste detection

When a student pastes text into an extended-response question in an assigned Task, this is flagged for you. You can see paste events in a few places:

  • The Responses tab

    • In the per-question view

Screenshot of the Responses tab, showing a text response pasted into a question field.

    • In the per-student view

Screenshot of the Responses tab showing one student's pasted text as their answer.

  • The Report tab

    • In a student’s Progress, for the specific student and section

The Students' Progress table with sections flagged where students pasted text.

    • In Actions

Actionable messages flagging students for pasting text.

    • In Section details, for the specific section where paste was detected

Pasted text shown under 'Section Details'.

    • When you open a student’s response, you can see exactly what text they pasted:

'Pasted answer' label shown when viewing Student Responses.

What students see

When a student pastes text into an extended-response question, they’re warned that their teacher will be able to see the pasted text. The warning only appears when the student pastes something. If they dismiss it, it appears again the next time they paste in their next EP session (for example, a new tab or window of EP).

Student view with a notice that pasted content will be visible to the teacher.
