Extra Tāpiri FAQ (Formerly ODT Extra!)

Allied Press and Education Perfect have joined forces to bring schools quality, trusted journalism with  Extra Tāpiri + EP.

What is Extra Tāpiri?

The Otago Daily Times Extra Tāpiri (formerly known as ODT Extra!) publication is a Social Sciences resource for students aged 8-14 available in schools across New Zealand. Published by Allied Press, it is the only remaining Newspaper in Education resource in NZ! Since 2005, it has been delivered to schools as a 16 page printed newspaper with 11 to 12 editions per year.

Since the beginning of 2021 schools have had the option of choosing to receive their annual Extra Tāpiri subscription digitally via the Education Perfect platform.

Delivering Extra Tāpiri via EP allows teachers to unlock alternative approaches to these resources in their classrooms. Teachers can now use Extra Tāpiri as homework, pre-learning, or even relief lessons without having to worry about physical learning material. This program provides teachers with instant feedback on student achievement and engagement, and as an added benefit helps reduce classroom waste!

In 2022 the team at Extra Tāpiri are producing a weekly Current Events Quiz which will be available, free of charge for all EP teachers to use in their classrooms. These quizzes will contain ten questions about national and international news and current events. These will help keep students engaged with news media and can then lead to classroom discussions about significant events around the world and how this impacts us in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Does it cost to access Extra Tāpiri resources on EP?

Schools or classes who subscribe to EP can choose to receive their  Extra Tāpiri subscription digitally, via EP, for $9 per student annually.

If your school is not subscribing to  Extra Tāpiri + EP yet, you can sign up here. When you subscribe, we will be in touch to help get you set up on EP.

Additionally to this, all EP subscribers will have FREE access to the weekly quizzes provided by Extra Tāpiri.

You do not have to be an Extra Tāpiri subscriber to access the weekly quiz, they are available to everyone on EP, thanks to Extra Tāpiri.

Which Extra Tāpiri events are running on EP this year?

EP is also partnering with  Extra Tāpiri to host their annual Spelling Bee and Current Events quizzes this year.
