Using diagnostic tests to gauge your students' level

Pre-built assessments are pre-populated assessments available for you to use on EP (often based on past exams). These come with advanced marking rules and can automatically recommend follow-up work.

Your students will answer these questions under exam conditions; they'll have a time limit and will not see the correct answers until marking is complete.

Step by step guide

Navigate to the Assessments tab, and click + Assign. When prompted, choose Assessment.

1. Select classes and students

Click Select classes and students to choose the relevant class. Use + Assign to specific students to choose specific learners.

2. Set dates

Choose a start and end time and date.

3. Select content

Click Select content then browse to the assessment you wish to assign. Click Confirm Selection.

Not all topics and levels have diagnostic tests set up for them, however, another option is to assign a Quiz based on existing content instead. Quizzes offer similar options and features.

4. Recommended next steps

Recommended next steps are available for many but not all Pre-Built Assessments.

Once the assessment is complete, EP automatically recommends individualised follow up activities based on student performance within the exam.

For example: If one learner scored less than 70% in expanding equations, whereas another struggled with factorising equations, each would get different work assigned to them.

In this section, you can choose a due date for the recommendations, and limit the amount of work to assign.

To stop recommendations from being automatically assigned, untick the option in this section (you can always assign them manually later). Check out our full guide on Recommended next steps.

5. Options

In this section, choose conditions to customise your assessment.

Specify how many attempts students will get, and set security measures like requiring students to use an access code.

Email settings can be changed in this section. By default, all email notifications are turned off, but you can expand this section and change the settings.

The email to students will be sent at the start time of the assessment, not when you create it. The email will not provide them with the access code.

Click Assign, and you're all done!
