Adding your own questions to your activity
You have the ability to create your own questions, selecting from a selection of six auto-marked question types.
To start adding your own questions:
If you’re creating a new activity, once you’ve selected a learning outcome, you’ll see options to start with Question blocks.
If you already have content in your activity, you can add your own questions at any stage by selecting the ‘+’ button at the end of each question.
Let's take a look at the different question types that you can start creating
- Multiple choice
- Multiple select
- True/False
- Fill in the blank (drag and drop)
- Fill in the blank (dropdown)

| Multiple choice | Students select one correct answer from a list of options |
| Multiple select | Students choose all correct answers from a list of options |
| True/False | Students decide if a statement is true or false |
| Fill in the blank (drag and drop) | Students complete a sentence or phrase by dragging and dropping the correct answer from the list for each blank |
| Fill in the blank (dropdown) | Students complete a sentence or phrase by selecting the correct answer from a dropdown list for each blank |

Creating a Multiple Choice question
Click the Multiple choice option.

The Question block opens.
- Type your question into the Question field.
- In the description field, provide extra instructions or context for students. (Optional)
- Click Add choice to enter each possible answer.
- Tick the box next to the correct answer. By default, the first option is marked as correct, you can change it.
- Enter feedback for each choice to explain why it’s correct or incorrect. (Optional)
Creating a Multiple Select question
Click the Multiple select option.

The Question block opens.
- Type your question into the Question field.
- In the description field, provide extra instructions or context for students. (Optional)
- Click Add choice to enter each possible answer.
- Select the correct answers.
- By default, the first choice is marked correct.
- To change this, untick it or tick the boxes next to other correct answers.
- You can select more than one correct answer if needed.
💡 Use this format when multiple answers are correct, like "Select all that apply" questions.
Creating a True/False question
Click the True or false option.

The Question block opens.
- Type your question into the Question field.
- In the description field, provide extra instructions or context for students. (Optional)
- Select the correct answer: By default, ‘True’ is selected as the correct answer. You can change this by selecting False.
Creating a Drag and drop (Fill in the Blank) question
Click the Dropdown option.

The Question block opens.
- Type your question into the Question field.
- In the description field, provide extra instructions or context for students. (Optional)

Type or paste your full passage into the Text field.

Highlight the words or phrases you want students to fill in, the +make blank option appears. Select to turn them into blanks.

Add incorrect options
Creating a Dropdown (Fill in the Blank) question
Click the Dropdown option.

The Question block opens.
- Type your question into the Question field.
- In the description field, provide extra instructions or context for students. (Optional)

Type or paste your full passage into the Text field.

Highlight the words or phrases you want students to fill in, the +make blank option appears. Select to turn them into blanks.

Click the dropdown next to a blank and select Add an option to include distractors (incorrect choices) for each blank.
Adding feedback messages to a question
Feedback messages allow you to provide explanations to your students about their selected answers, helping them reflect on their answer and understand why it was right or wrong.
To add a feedback message, select the question and select ‘Feedback messages’ from the toolbar and add text in the fields provided.
For multiple choice questions, you can add a feedback message per answer choice, allowing you to provide targeted explanations to your students.
For all other question types, you can add one feedback message for all ‘correct’ answers and all ‘incorrect’ answers.
Adding images, videos and text
Adding images, videos, or text blocks helps provide context and makes your questions more interactive and engaging for students.
By default, question blocks are set to No media. To add a resource:
- Select the specific question block you wish to edit.

Click the No media dropdown menu at the top of the block.
- Select the position where you’d like your media to display.

Media Types
Once you have selected a display position, choose your media type:
- Images: Click the Image icon to upload a file from your computer or paste an image URL.
- Videos: Click the Video icon to upload a video file directly or embed a link.
- Text Stimulus: Click the Text icon to open a field where you can type or paste long-form reading passages or instructions.
Re-ordering questions
You can easily re-order your questions by dragging questions from the left-hand-side question list and dropping them into the desired order.
Previewing your activity
To preview how your activity will appear to students, select the ‘Preview’ button. You can interact with each question, submit answers and preview correct/incorrect answer scenarios.
Changing your activity’s theme
You can easily customise the look and feel of your activity by selecting the button and choosing from the theme list.
