Before you begin

Here are a few important points to consider when getting started with the AI-Powered Feedback tool:

  • Subscription: This article covers features available in the Core tier subscription. If you subscribe to EP’s Plus tier, please refer to this article for the feature differences specific to your plan.
  • Availability: AI feedback is only available for selected extended response questions in Tasks (not Assessments) and excludes multimedia or maths-based questions.
  • Best Practice: Introduce the tool during class time so you can guide students and address questions. Avoid using it for homework until students are confident with it.
  • Device Compatibility: AI Feedback doesn’t work on small screens (e.g. phones, some tablets). Use a laptop or desktop via EP’s website.

Read more about introducing AI to your class in our Best Practice Guide.

Turning the AI feedback on and off

You can choose whether to toggle AI on or off for each task.

To do this, go to the Tasks area and open the Details tab. Under Options, you’ll see a toggle to turn AI on or off for that specific task.

Note: AI-powered feedback is turned on by default.

Note: The Learning Loop Mode is only relevant for AI Plus-tier subscriptions

Student Learning

In class, students access their assigned EP lesson content. When they reach an AI-enabled question and click Check Answer they receive personalised, AI-driven feedback along with a star rating out of five. It can take up to 20 seconds for feedback to generate on the right hand side of the screen.

💪 At the top, they will see highlights of what they did well.

🤔 Below that, they will find suggestions for improving their response.

Your Core-tier subscription includes one round of AI-generated feedback per question. After the first attempt, students can click Got It to proceed or choose to improve their answer. Any revisions will receive a star rating but no additional feedback.

Students can identify AI-enabled questions by looking for the AI notification on extended response questions.

Reviewing AI Feedback

AI Insights (Basic) allows you to review AI-generated feedback and star ratings, and add your own comments directly next to student responses in the Tasks area. Hover over a student’s answer to see AI annotations—if no feedback is available, you’ll see the message "No AI feedback".

You can view feedback by student or by question in the Responses area of Tasks. This gives you deeper insight into each student’s learning progress, helps identify knowledge gaps and supports more meaningful interactions during your limited class time.

FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions about this tool.

Where does AI fit into the EP platform, and what does it do?

Within EP’s AI-Powered Feedback tool, students receive instant AI-generated feedback on supported extended response questions, which are marked with the AI symbol. This feature is automatically activated when these activity types are assigned to students. Teachers have full visibility of both student responses and the AI feedback provided, ensuring they remain central to the learning process. Importantly, this tool is designed to support more effective student learning as part of EP lessons and is not used for assessment.

Is EP’s AI-Powered Feedback Tool safe to use in schools?

Yes. EP’s AI-Powered Feedback tool  is purpose-built for education, with built-in safeguards to ensure it won’t engage with topics that are inappropriate for a school setting. It’s not an open-ended chatbot and teachers have full visibility on all AI-feedback served to their students.

In addition, EP's AI-Powered Feedback tool meets all current government regulations for AI use in schools and has successfully qualified to be part of the Safer Technologies for Schools (ST4S) Product Badge Program, which includes an AI Assessment  —giving schools and educators added peace of mind.

What happens if AI gets it wrong?

While EP’s AI-Powered Feedback tool uses a powerful AI model designed to deliver accurate and unbiased content, no AI system is perfect—and occasional errors can occur. Our model has been specifically trained on EP’s lesson content, so it’s generally more accurate than many other AI systems, but it may still occasionally produce feedback that is confusing or incorrect.

If a student receives feedback they believe is inaccurate or inappropriate, they can flag it directly within the product clicking the “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” icons and providing commentary . We encourage teachers and students to report any concerns via AI-safety@educationperfect.com so we can continue to improve the system.

What data will be collected, and how will it be managed?

All data is handled in line with Education Perfect's Privacy Policy. Key points include:

  • Student Data is stored securely in data centres located in Australia.
  • Your data is never sold or distributed.
  • To support logging and troubleshooting, we store limited context related to the AI-generated content—such as the curriculum area, subject, and teacher’s prompt—but this is not retained long term.
  • While all reasonable precautions have been taken to ensure data safety, we strongly advise that teachers avoid entering personally identifiable information (PII) into AI prompts.
How are the star ratings determined? Our AI tool rates all student responses by comparing them to model answers and explanations crafted by educators. All lessons and questions are aligned to your selected curriculum.
How is EP's AI-feedback generated? Read about how EP's AI feedback is generated here.
How can I tell if AI feedback is available for a question I assign? Look for the AI symbol (purple sparkle) at the top of the lesson and next to AI-supported extended response questions (marked with a blue pencil icon). When you assign a lesson that includes an AI enabled question, it will automatically be assigned to your student/s—no extra setup needed.
Can I turn the AI off?

Yes, you can turn the AI off at task level (read more here).

Alternatively, if your school has policies around how students interact with AI and you’d prefer to opt out, simply contact our support team and they can easily disable this feature for you.
