Using EP Languages visual text lessons in the classroom
This article outlines suggestions for how teachers can use EP's authentic visual text lessons within their classroom for language learning.
What are visual text lessons?
Our visual text lessons are based on the theme of a specific EP Languages unit.
Each lesson contains 3 different visual texts accompanied by a variety of comprehension and production tasks.
These lessons have been designed to go alongside our beginner and intermediate level units, but can also be used as stand alone lessons.
Where can they be found?
They can be found in each EP Languages Beginner or Intermediate unit, either within our Discover tool or in the Library tab within a unit folder.
Ideas for using authentic visual text lessons
Individual activities
- Students work through the lesson at their own pace.
- Teachers can choose to assign different sections to different students - you might just assign the comprehension questions to some students - but all activities to other students.
- You might choose to assign one visual text at a time.
- On completion of the EP lesson -students could make their own version of the visual text.
- Students create their own vocabulary glossary based on the visual text.
- The production tasks can be used as a speaking/writing assessment.
Whole class teaching
- You could use the visual text lesson to introduce a topic.
- Project the visual text and use it with the whole class to introduce/discover new vocabulary.
- Group reading out loud together with the text projected on the screen.
Pair or small group activities
- Students work through the EP Lessons in pairs or small groups where they discover the language in the visual text together - but individually submit the activities on their own device.
- Students create a role play that relates to one of the visual texts in a particular unit
- In pairs - do a running dictation with the visual text
