Monitoring an Assessment/Exam
Education Perfect enables teachers to monitor assigned work to help ensure students are completing assessments under exam conditions and staying on task.
This feature supports invigilation by notifying teachers if students go off task or experience connection issues. In this article, we'll explain how to use monitoring and what to be aware of.
⚠️ Device requirement: Assessments can only be completed on a computer or tablet. Students accessing EP via the PWA on a tablet can complete assessments, but monitoring features may be limited. Assessments are not supported on mobile phones.
Enabling Monitored Assessment Mode
Monitored Assessment Mode complements a vigilant teacher in the exam room, but does not replace supervision. Overall responsibility for maintaining assessment integrity remains with the teacher. For remote assessments, we recommend running a video call alongside monitoring.
All EP Assessments include monitoring by default. For more detailed event tracking, ensure Full-Screen mode is enabled.
To enable full monitoring:
- Assign an Assessment.
-
In the Options section, ensure Full Screen is ticked.

This requires students to remain in full-screen mode during the assessment and enables more detailed event tracking. Full Screen is enabled by default, but we recommend checking before assigning.
Limitations of Monitored Assessment Mode
Browser Support
Google Chrome is the recommended browser for assessments and monitoring. Other browsers may allow students to access assessments but can limit monitoring functionality, including full-screen tracking and focus detection.
Device Limitations
Computers (Windows/Mac) - Fully supported when using a recommended browser. Note that some macOS features (e.g. Spotlight) may reduce monitoring visibility and can appear as "lost focus" events in the Monitor tab.
Tablets (iPad/Android) - Assessments can be completed using the EP Progressive Web App (PWA). Full-screen mode and monitoring features may be limited depending on the browser and device. Teachers should exercise additional supervision when students are on tablets.
Mobile Phones - Assessments are not supported on mobile phones. Students must use a computer or tablet.
Note: Assessments are not supported on mobile phones. Students must use a computer or tablet.. Teachers should plan accordingly if students are using handheld devices.
How to use Monitored Assessment Mode
Once your assessment is set up with Full Screen enabled:
- Navigate to the Monitor tab of the assessment.
- View the timeline of events for students completing the assessment.
The Monitor tab is available for all assessments, but Full Screen provides more detailed insights into student activity. Students are required to remain in full-screen mode - if they exit or navigate away, they will receive a warning.

Students are required to be in full-screen mode when completing their assessments. If they attempt to navigate away, or exit full-screen mode they will receive a red warning.

Monitoring multiple assessments
If you have more than one assessment in an active state, you can monitor them together from a single view using the Monitor other Assessments feature.
Note: This option is only available when at least one other assessment is currently active.
- Open the Monitor tab of any active assessment.
-
Click Monitor other Assessments in the top right of the monitor view.

-
In the modal that appears, select the assessments you want to monitor - you'll see your own assessments under My Assessments, and any others available to you under Other Assessments.

- Click Confirm.
You'll then be able to view and manage student activity across all selected assessments in one place.
