ODT Extra! Tāpiri Spelling Bee 2022

We’re excited to be partnering with ODT Tāpiri to host this year’s ODT Extra! Tāpiri Spelling Bee. This article contains information on how to get registered, get set up, and take part.

When is the event?

The competition will take place between 9am - 12pm on 7th July 2022, with results presented from 2pm.

Who can take part?

This event is free for any New Zealand English subject students in Years 5-10.

Schools do not need to be using EP to participate, but they need to register on behalf of their students.

How do we sign up?

Teachers must register via this registration page by 28th June at the latest.

Login details and access codes for the event (as well as instructions) will be shared with those who registered closer to the time.

How do I enrol students?

No need! EP will set up competition accounts for you and your competing teams. Teams will be grouped into different levels for Year 5/6, Year 7/8, and Year 9/10.

Login information will be shared with those who registered closer to the time.

How do students compete?

Students will log into EP in their teams (one EP account per team) and complete the quiz.

Students will participate over ten rounds on topics like proofreading, synonyms, abbreviations, plurals, some good old fashioned spelling lists and more!

Practice Material

Practice quizzes are available for students to complete now. These can be found in the Content Library under the Cross-Curricular subject header.

Are there any prizes?

Yes! More information regarding prizes for this event will be announced closer to the time.

The top 10 teams from each year level will be invited to a special Grand Final in Dunedin later in the year. Our partner, Otago Museum, home of the largest Science Centre in New Zealand, will host this event.
